that's the "tallblock" (159mm rod) 2L 16v found in non-US-market A3-16v's.

imagine an A3 2.Slow engine with 16v pistons/head, a slightly redesigned
intake manifold, a few other bits changed, and Digifant (II, i think)
management and you're getting close to an ABF.
