Taking out the chip is pretty easy, as long as you have the right torx bit for the ECU casing. I think the question is, why do you want to replace it? We've been having a conversation on the 'vortex about the GIAC chip and pinging under load (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=523300). I agree with the other posts, the current revision (is it v18/v19 or something?) has been around for a bunch of years. If you open up the ECU, I think the version # is written on the top of the chip, it's also on the receipt that came with the chip (if you have it). Compare it with the specs at the GIAC website.
