Don't forget to check wiring carefully! My old '89 16v (non-Motronic)
developed a horrible cold start/cold running problem. Turns out that a wire
had snapped behind the airbox (due to an overzealous "mechanic"
high-pressure washing the engine bay..). Go through the Bentley schematics
for the cold start/cold running system, and check all of the connections.
How is the condition of your wiring harness? Brittle? Flexible? Spending a
good afternoon going through the brittle old harness of my '89 (two weeks
before it was stolen, ironically..) fixed a lot of the weird/intermittent
running problems that I had.
