ok i let the replies build up now for my responses and yet my question stands, how do we convince VWofA to deliver these cars here?
<<<Competition for Toyota and Ford!?! Shame on you! The Lupo is a true hatch, not a "sport utility rocket" or a Ford POS. I'd say the regular Lupo is more closely related to other Euro cars. The Lupo GTI, with its 1.6L 16v and 6 speed trans, is competing with BMW's Mini. There is a side by side comparison in the November issue of Performance VW (available at B&N for $8). They say it was a close call but if you want style go with the Mini and if you want performance get the Lupo. Jimi Polivka>>> now i have not looked at the Nov PVW, but i based my comparing the lupo to the echo/yaris/vitz and focus from an article in a brit mag 'CAR', where they did a side by side test of the yaris and lupo, the lupo GTI was not built at that time. i looked at a focus and echo, they are very comparable...price, size, image... <<<Lupo against Focus? No way! Lupo is almost a microcar, it competes with Seat Arosa and Nissan Micra - the real competitor of Focus is still the old and good Golf =) A good option is the new Polo, that belongs to a category which includes the Mk1 Golf. Since then, Golf grew up and joined a superior category. What you must have in mind before choosing Lupo: it's much smaller than Golf(total 3,5 meters long) and is small inside, too! The good thing is the fuel consumption, really low. Buy a Polo 1.4 16v like the same avaliable in Europe or wait for the new Polo Sedan (that is produced in Brazil) with 1.6 and 2.0 (yep, from Golf) options. Maybe later VW will import the hatch Polo. Who knows? Thyago>>> i personally have never seen a lupo, but as mentioned above it was compared to the Echo for size, you are right that the current polo is closer in size to the MK1 golf, but the weight is higher and i totally agree the the lupo has amazing gas milage, especially the 3L TDI, and for those who don't know, that is not engine size, it represents 3L per 100km of disel, the world most fuel efficent car <<<Lupo would be awesome to have here, but it wont happen unfortunately... VW is killing it soon... (Even tho VWoA has several of them in NA for testing/play purposes) There is serious talk of the Polo coming here as im sure you guys have read... i really hope it does cuz that will be my next car. Scott>>> so lets convince them otherwise <<<I'll support Lupo introduction (although we are more likely to see a Polo here), but it really isn't a Focus competitor. Focus is competing directly against the Golf and Jetta/Bora, bith here and in Europe. Ford's Lupo-sized entry is the Ka, while they counter with the Fiesta against the Polo. Tom>>> i cant picture a golf/jetta/bora actually being in the same class, perhapes same size group, the VW's are more luxury oriented, and the others are more just effient transport <<<I agree about the Lupo/Ka (both very cool!), but I think the Golf is in a different class from Focus/Civic's despite what all the car magazines say; drive one of each, the Golf is a cut above the econo boxes. James>>> totally, one article i read compared 'hot econo machines' tested were 1.8T GTI(180hp), SVT focus, Protege MP3, Civic Si/Si-R to canaians, and Sentra SE-R V-spec, the GTI was fast, and heaviest, but also had most power <<<The Lupo GTI kicks fuckin' ASS!!! Fab (97 GTI)>>> so are you in for convincing VW we want them here? jeremy > hey all, >> who is with me that we need a smaller, lighter, >> cheaper, VW in NA to replace our aging mk1's and 2's >> based projects >> >> How would we go about petitioning VW of NA, to >> convince them of this? >> >> just think of this, the Lupo is in direct competion >> in europe with the focus ZX3, and the Vitz/Yaris >> (europe/jap names for the echo, mind you they only >> have a hatch version) >> i see lots of these cars here, the market is there, >> for funky small cars >> >> so who will help? >> >> even if we were to get the middle of the line polo >> i'd be happier >> >> jeremy __________________________________________________________________ The NEW Netscape 7.0 browser is now available.
