Hi Jesse,

I just pulled my headliner out of a 91 GLI last weekend. I too was worried
about pulling the plugs without breaking.

What I did with pretty good success is using a small screw driver (the kind
that you would use for eye glass repair) push under the plug all the way
across as close to center as possible (so bit of screw driver is on both
sides on plug). Be careful not to crack outer edge, seems most brittle on
edge. Hopefully the plug became somewhat loose. Then slide a THIN wrench (I
think mine was around a 6mm) in place of the screwdriver. This gives you
solid contact on the whole plug head surface. Pressing the plug head against
the wrench gently pull the wrench away from the sealing...no problems.

If you are digging these out of a junk car, just destroy the headliner to
expose the plug and use the wrench technique...should work for you as well.

Greg
