Mike, A friend of mine constructed an engine support which uses a long threaded rod to vary the height of the engine. Here are some pics taken during a recent tranny replacement in my '89.
It rests on the ledge just on the inside of the fenders: http://ken.no-ip.com/links/tranny/enginesupportbig.jpg Closeup of how I attached the threaded rod to the "ear" on the front of the engine. http://ken.no-ip.com/links/tranny/enginesupportclose.jpg This setup worked great, as you need all the room you can get under the car. It's also nice to be able to raise and lower the engine as needed. I've seen guys build a similar support using 4x4 lumber. -Ken -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of MICHAEL INGRAM Sent: Monday, May 19, 2003 6:11 PM To: a2-16v-list Subject: [a2-16v-list] clutch removal question... Hi all, Now that I've moved out my gl 8v its time to replace the clutch in my 89gti 16v. Any ideas on how to support the engine( I do not have an engine stand) I know the Bentley calls for some kind of support devive..what I want to know is if there is any way of getting around that. Maybe with another floor jack from underneath? Or is this not possible? Thanks Mike 89gti 16v 92camaro _______________________________________________ a2-16v-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list For list archives, see listinfo link above.
