There are 2 styles of front engine mounts. The one that I've seen most 16V's come with is the big monstrosity that we call the hydraulic front mount, which most replace with a rubber mount. The other is the one that early 8V's came with and it looks like an arm with a vertically positioned rubber disk in it, which is visible. I'm sure your local VW parts place will have the front rubber mount, or you can always try parts4vw.com or germanautoparts.com Since I'm in Toronto (home of SARS) Canada, I usually visit my local VW parts place.
My advice is to replace with a rubber mount or bring your current hydro mount to a plastic injection/moulding place and have them fill it up with poly eurothane.
