The gear selector is almost directly above the speedometer cable opening. Is
it possible that the selector shaft oil seal is leaking and thus giving the
appearance of a leak from the speedometer cable opening?

I'm fighting a transaxle oil leak that originates from where the speedo
cable goes into the case. I've replaced the seal between the retaining
plate and the case, but it still leaks intermittently. It seems to be
coming from around the cable housing, but it's hard to tell for sure.
Anyone had this problem and successfully fixed it?
Let me know before I attack it with a huge tube of RTV...
