For a Motronic Wiring harness, I would call www.Germanpartshaus.com 800-464-5284 toll free
or "FAST" Foreign Auto Salvage Technicians 767 Alpha St. Duarte, CA 91010-3583 626-357-3361. Either would be able to seperate the harness correctly and supply you with the correct plugs. Both have supplied parts and expertise for numerous magazine projects. I've sourced many wiring harnesses and engine swap kits from both of these salvage yards. You did not indicate where you were located. If you are in Southern California, Ron Wood of VW Specialties is excellent at sorting out issues like you've described. He performed similar repairs on Project 16V which was recently featured in European Car Magazine. VW Specialties can be contacted at (714) 848-3766 Les -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Hauptmann, Eric Sent: Friday, October 31, 2003 9:40 AM To: 16V-list ([email protected]) Subject: [a2-16v-list] Any ideas on this? RE: 1990 GLI....If you work on these yourself, I NEED YOUR HELP! From: Ron & Paula [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, October 31, 2003 10:48 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [WWW.GLIREALM.COM] 1990 GLI....If you work on these yourself, I NEED YOUR HELP! My son bought a GLI last March. In May it blew a head gasket and went to Volkswagen for repair. They were changing rings and bearings as well as the head work. They put it back together and blew the engine during the test drive. They put in a used engine with what is supposed to be less miles but they could never get the car to run well because it ran so rich that when you turned the key it flooded the engine. They finally gave up and returned my money and car. I got the car started by dropping the position of the control plunger in the fuel distributor. The car still does not rev but it will idle with a slight pulsing of the engine. The big problem is that it is blowing white smoke, not steam, and unburnt gas from the exhaust and into the air box. We drained the oil and it was heavily contaminated with gas. Do you think that the gas in the oil is from the cylinders filling with gas so many times before starting, or is there something blown? I am thinking that the white smoke is because there is so much gas in the exhaust system that it is just burning that off because after changing the oil in the car there was less smoke. Any ideas? I feel bad for my son. he drove this car for 3 - 4 weeks before the blown head gasket, and every time we think we are making progress it is something else. I really hope you all can help. Also, does anyone know of where to get a new wiring harness for the Motronic System?
