Mark,
After looking at the part numbers, it appears that all the diesel motors (turbo and non-turbo) used different springs (different part numbers) than the gas engines. I did not find any reference to the exact difference between the two however. If your motor has that many miles on it replacing the valve springs is a good idea if you are doing the head work anyway. Let us know if you find additional information.

GBergthold

Subject: [a2-16v-list] Valve Springs

My head has some pretty high milage on it and planning on rebuilding it soon. I'm considering replacing the valve springs, seeing as have over 300,000kms (180,000miles) on them.

Are there any advantages of replacing the stock valve springs on a 16V with those from mk2 Turbo Diesel? I've heard that the Turbo Diesel springs are stiffer than the stock 16V ones, and allow for revs up to 8000rpm with no valve float.

Thanks,
Mark.
