Took my car into the shop for its mid-life overhaul, spent about ton on
repairs, modifications, and parts. And pretty much now have a new jetta.

replaced rear and front wheel bearings
new brake pads
new front wheel hubs,
replaced cv's and both axles,
timing belt, water pump, intermediate shaft seal
valve cover gasket, spark plugs
power steering pump, new shift linkage & bushings,
replaced all four struts and springs,
complete new exhaust,
replaced missing bumper and fender trim,
new door handles (they actually work 100% of the time now)

the other thing they managed to do was remove the AC compressor and
reconenct the alternator pully to the engine without the use of any extra
brackets or mounts. I know this seems to be the topic of a lot of debate, so
when i get the car back home later tonight, im going to take a few pics of
the engine so you can see what they did.
