Mark,

While pulling out your downpipe and manifold, you may have knocked the
distributor cap out of whack. I've cracked distrib. caps pretty easy in the
past (esp the non-Bosch ones), so its worth checking. Check for spark at
the terminal on the cap as well (between the number 2 cylinder wire and the
cap). If you don't see a spark, then there is obviously a problem with your
cap/rotor (assuming the other three cylinders are firing correctly). Do you
have a spare set laying around?

Hope this helps,
Denis G.

Subject: [a2-16v-list] Passat 16V: Mis Firing

I did a little checking around under the hood of the Passat.
It appears that cylinder 2 is not firing. I unplugged spark plug wires one
at a time and it didn't make a difference when I pulled plug wire #2.
I pulled the spark plug out and it was covered in gas. I changed the plug
wires with the ones on my Jetta and even replaced the spark plug with a
spare I had around.
It still mis fired on cylinder 2.

hmmmmmmmm

Mark.
