Now that I'm a few weeks away from my project I'm a bit undecided about the 16V powerplant.
this is a list of things I will need or work to be done as well as the cost in Canadian $$$... -Honeing block, hot tanking = $50 -Bottom End parts (bearings, cyl rings) = $400 -Head Work (porting, decking, 5 angle valve job) = $600-800 -Oil Pump $300 **Optional** -New gaskets = $150 -50mm Euro Intake Manifold and Euro Intake Cam $300 (picked them up in europe) A complete 1.8T will cost me anywhere from $2500-$3500 the 1.8T starts at 180hp and will be able to get 215hp with a chip. I really like the 16V engine and think it has a lot of potential but weighing the good and the bad, the 1.8T seems like a better deal and it's a new engine. A worked 16V will put out 180hp at best, maybe 200hp with individual throttle bodies and forged pistons to boot. Sure there are bits and pieces that will be needed to get a 1.8T "shoe-horned" into a MK2, like a new downpipe. all prices are in Canadian $$$. Just thinking out loud.
