Well guys, ever since putting the head back on the Passat (I haven't started it yet because the battery is dead).
By my figures I'll probably spend a bit over to $1500CDN to completely rebuild (including headwork) the 16V in my 91 GTX and I expect it to push out 170-180hp. I've been entertaining the idea of maybe swapping a 1.8T into the Jetta. It'll have 180hp off the bat and with a chip it'll push 210-220hp, with a bigger intercooler and turbo it'll push more. I hear that a 1.8T goes for about $2500-3500CDN so it may just be worth it. My other alternative is to get some mild headwork done to the 16V head and slap everything back together, it'll cost me around $500-700CDN that way, and way less without all the headwork. I'm just thinking out loud. I find it hard to stray from what I've loved for so long. the 16V has always been a great engine and VW Motorsport still uses them. Hmmmmmm, I've got some thinking to do. As soon as I get the Passat up and running I'll decide what I'm gonna do. Mark Reda.
