Larry,
Some solid mounts have removeable solid inserts. If your mount is like this,
try just removing the solid inserts first. If you mount has them permanently
installed, then try the OEM style factory non-hydro mount. It does a good
job of absorbing the vibrations, and has a much better price point than the
hydro mount.

Hi all,
My original rear-passenger-side mount finally failed and I decided to
replace it with a solid mount with Poly inserts. Well, now I can stop
babying the shifts because this new mount setup is solid. Maybe too
solid! Before the replacement, my car was rattle town but now the
population of rattles has greatly increased to rattle city. At idle my
dash is almost shaking. Things calm down at speed but it is almost
distracting how much the inside of the car shakes now.
I had read warnings about the solid mount not absorbing enough of the
vibration from the 16V engine, but these are the sort of things you
have to experience for yourself.
So now I am wondering if there is hope that I can tighten up everything
on the dash and calm things down. Maybe readjusting every screw and
adding lock-tight to them might help.
Do you guys think that if I want a somewhat civilized interior noise
level, I will have to switch back to a Hydro mount?
