Wow.. Long time no post :) Hope everyone's doing well. So I finally decided to get the 92 16v up and running after a 4 year break (can't afford to put gas in my truck anymore).
I basically did a mini-ovehaul on it. New oil filter / belts / plugs / timing / cam / seals. Started her up right away (yay). She'll idle fine. I'll get in and drive around until the car is snuggly sitting in running temperature. But the first time I let it drop to idle after that, it dies. Once this happens, it won't start at all (just keeps turning, and pretending to catch once in a while). It'll stay like this until the car cools down, and then it'll fire right up again, idle fine up until I get in and drive around and come to an idle again. I'm guessing fuel related (injectors maybe), since it runs OK when cold. I guess it could also be a bad O2 sensor. The Bentley has a big list of problems to check for under the hot startup trouble shooting section, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has a very good guess of what I should check first. If not, I'll just start checking stuff one by one from the top. This might be a hint : One mistake I made was to not drain the gas (4-5 years old). I had about a 1/4 tank left. It's filled with fresh gas now (with some fuel injection cleaner additives). Thanks for any info. Zia. 1992 GTI 16v.
