Steve, 
Did you notice a drop in power when the sound changed? Even though your shop 
tells you otherwise, I would suspect a leakage somewhere. Maybe in the exhaust 
manifold up front?

Do you have headers or are you using the stock downpipe? There is also the flex 
joint on the downpipe that can leak when ruptured. Also check your exhaust 
hangers.
