With the parts for our cars becoming more scarce, I'm finding it more challenging to get replacement parts.
I have listings of places that I scour looking for parts. But finding the dreaded "NLA" on many parts. I was able to recently acquire a pair of good condition roof gutters from a guy near San Francisco. But it took a few phone calls from friends of friends of friends to find it. It took me years to find a set that was usable for a Golf. Jettas seem to have them available from China. But difficult items like window seals, ignition cyl/lock replacements, certain body parts, some rubber seals/boots are becoming harder to source--even in the salvage yards. http://www.vwdiscountparts.com is one such place I've found parts. I've also discovered this place for replacement Recaro parts. http://www.capitalseating.co.uk/productlist.asp?type=s&view=range&rid=61&mid=2 I also check PartsGeek for new replacement parts that are still available. That site also gives me a good basis for street prices on parts and what to expect to pay when I create my parts lists and have to calculate expenditures. When I'm stuck or don't know what to get, I usually go to Parts4VWs and talk to Kristen/Mike Potter. He's a former VW parts manager so knows his interchangeability between parts and can find OEM parts in the VW/Audi network. He was also a contributor to some articles in European car and servers sometimes as a driving instructor at some of the local tracks. Any other good sources for MKII parts that I don't know about? -Les _______________________________________________ a2-16v-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list For list archives, see listinfo link above.
