The guy on Facebook is doing a fantastic job. I noticed he just finished
his transaxle. I don't read German but am curious to what he did. I wish I
knew how to paint to get that pretty finish on the outside.

I've been much slower in my own Golf 16v project. There seems to be other
things which always take priority, time, and funds.

In the last two years I've slowly progressed with the rebuilding of an AGB
code 5 speed close ratio gearbox that I had rebuilt by BrokeVW. I also had
a Peloquin LSD that I'd had on a shelf for about 10 years installed. I have
another project car which I thought was done but ended up returning to the
garage so my 16V is pushed back once again. The AGB allows me to use the
more robust 100mm flanges. Now have to get new drive shafts.

I was also able to get the .80 fifth gear installed in the AGB. Lots of
freeway driving here in SoCal. So the taller fifth will keep the driving
duties a bit more relaxed at freeway speeds rather than that high pitched
engine whine. (Better gas mileage too)

Most recently I found an entire key/ignition cylinder kit for the MKII
Golf. Its a chinese make so quality is suspect. But i cant find anymore
of the german/brazilian kits that were once so plentiful. I'm going to
rekey everything so the car has only one set of keys. ( including the glove
box). Currently sporting three different keys. The complete Kit was around
$30, far less expensive than a locksmith.

I'm still in search of replacement rear window seals. I did find a nice
pair of rain gutters in Northern California that made it into my parts bin.
I've also been slowly collecting and entire interior including headliner.
I've did find a source for front window seals for vintage VWs including my
short window '85 GL

With the empty body shell currently in the garage, I've toyed with adding
additional sound deadening material. I've been in a discussion with the
Vortex project guys who are tackling this very issue on their MKII project
GL. Also contemplating heat insulation on the firewall between the body and
the downpipe. Anybody done this on their 16V cars?

In addition, interested parties gave me an old Autoloc window lift/power
door lock kit, a Clifford alarm kit, and an old NOS Alpine alarm system,
all still in their respective boxes. Old aftermarket items from that MKII
era. That goes into the pile of Kenwood audio equipment that was previously
given to me for this project. Eventually I'll get around to installing it
if I decide to use it. Still undecided if I should add the vacuum actuated
VW power door locks or use the Autoloc aftermarket switches. Both can be
integrated into the key fob of either alarm system.

If your interested, my project blog gets updated occasionally when I
actually make progress. Sometimes that can be a long time between posts
