Ron - I found one of the best ways to stop fuel leaks is with a lighter...oh
wait, that's only to fix fuel leaks on cars that I don't like...

Larry - thanks for the informative reply.  It's such a change from VW Vortex
where everyone is an expert but no one has "street cred" unless their car is
scraping the pavement with a 1.8 swap.

Are you getting any fuel to the accumulator or fuel pump "box"?  Try putting
10v to the transfer pump (yes, 10v b/c it doesn't run on 12v b/c some engineer
decided that was best) and see if you're getting fuel out of the tank.  Then
test the input at the "box".  There aren't that many metal lines on the Mk2
cars but they have a few metal devices that could be easily upset when trying
to pump gasoline-jelly.

If you have access to compressed air, you may want to open both ends of the
lines from the tank to the box and from the box to the fuel distributor.  Then
squirt in some carb cleaner and force it thru with compressed air.  Put a rag
(preferably held by a human) at the other end to keep from making a huge mess
and also to get an idea of how much crud is coming out of the lines.

Me, too.  One of the handiest I've found are golf tees.  However, I've
observed
painted wooden tees losing the paint (being dissolved by
gasoline), and at least one plastic one that softened.  SOME bare wood
tees will hold liquid back pretty well.  I got lucky a couple of years
back & found a bag of them at a yard sale for like 50 cents (I don't
golf, though I have often Golf'ed, Rabbit'ed, Jetta'ed, etc.).  I've
also used center punches and similar items to plug soft tubing.
