In my younger days, I loved to see the performance enhancements such as this
and could not understand why anyone wouldn't want to make their automobiles
faster, handle better, and stop quicker.

As I get older, I now appreciate automobiles in closer to factory conditions.
My own project car has a few upgrades including a swap to the 16V from on old
low compression 8v, but I have had my fill of superchargers and turbochargers.
There are Porsche owners in my family and looking at valuations of the older
vehicles from the same generation as our MKIs & MKIIs, I see a increase in
value of stock factory condition cars while modified Porsches are selling for a
fraction of their non-modified siblings. (I wish our cars appreciated like
their cousins from Stuttgart!)

As a comparison, I recently changed the transmission oil/filter on my Audi
Tiptronic and had to use my laptop to accomplish the maintenance. Much too
complicated for my comfort zone. After dropping the tranny pan, there were
electrical wires and sensors everywhere. Something I'm not too excited about
considering the added complexity. Compared to my rebuild of the O2O AGB 5sp on
my MKII it was a refreshing dose of old-skool engineering from a much simpler
time.

I just finished replacing the front control arms, KO3 turbo, injectors, vacuum
valves, water pump, timing belt, PCV Pump, Auxiliary air pump & Hoses, motor
mounts, coolant flanges, thermostat, Cam Chain tensioner, Cam Position sensor,
Oil pump, Oil sensor and a host of other "maintenance" items on my 1.8T daily
driver. I'm most proud of my successful upgrade to a B7 2007 center console
which includes cup holders--CUP HOLDERS!. (I am getting older and these comfort
"Modifications" are most appreciated.

I'm looking forward to getting back in the garage and resume work on the
old-skool MKII.
