I don't have any kids either - it's cheaper to rent BUT I've instructed for
several Teen Driving programs including Tire Rack's Street Survival and a a
private group named  Blacktop Boot Camp.  There is some discussion about
whether these programs help or hurt - the argument is that a little information
is dangerous and these programs offer a little bit of info but not enough.
That said, given the lackluster Driver's Education programs that I've seen,
anyone who attends one of these programs is far and away safer provided they
don't become overconfident.
At Blacktop Boot Camp, the owner (a Virginia state trooper) contracted with the
county to put all of their HS Driver's Education instructors thru his program.
The level of driving ability was astoundingly BAD.  The vast majority of those
"instructors" are PE teachers who are looking for additional income but it's
terrifying to think that these people are teaching kids to drive when they can
barely drive themselves.
I would recommend Street Survival partly due to the cost and partly because
there are a good number of programs around the country - Welcome to Tire Rack
Street Survival. Real world. Hands-on.

Welcome to Tire Rack Street Survival. Real world. Hands-on.
Tire Rack Street Survival is a teen driving program using hands-on, real-world
situations to teach our children ... | |

I would follow that with beating into your daughter's head the facts about
distracted driving (texting is the worst but it's amazing to see people talking
on the phone or trying to adjust their iPod/radio).  I commute 40 miles one-way
and am astounded at how poorly people drive AND these are the people who are
teaching their kids how to drive - in other words, it's OK to text and drink a
soda while eating lunch AND driving because Mommy does it all the time and she
only wrecked the car a few times...
I'm glad to hear that you have the good sense to "outsource" the education.
While you can almost certainly teach your daughter, I've found as a performance
driving instructor that the WORST instructors and the WORST students are
family, friends and lovers.
Sorry for the rant - driver's education in the US is a joke.

daughter is 14 and will soon start driving (way too early here in FL in my
opinion).     Has anyone had experience with teen driving schools?   Skip
Barber does one in Atlanta, but I also found a much lower priced one locally in
Tampa.    Anyone have any positive or negative experiences with teen driving
schools like these?    http://gcsdrivingacademy.com/teen    -Larry 91 GTI 16V
