Hi Felix, sorry, I didn't see that thread earlier. The feature with the relations that you are using was never integrated into trunk. I assume that it is the generate_ways_from_relations.patch that I posted some time ago on this list. I'm using it, but it probably doesn't compile with 1140 right now. Too much has changed. I'm still busy with the "merging of similar ways" patch so that I don't update mkgmap for now, but stay at revision 1136. It would be too much work to keep all my patches in working order with relevant code files of mkgmap changing all the time.
