I wonder if the reason that makes even 500K nodes use 4G of RAM is the same one that makes your Legend Cx have trouble with the resulting map. > With mkgmap svn630 I can create a gmapsupp.img file straight from > denmark.osm that works in my GPS device, without using the splitter. Sure, but r630 is doing a lot less, so the interesting thing (to me) is to find and fix the problem when using the latest svn. >> if you are inclined to explore this further, read the source and add >> accounting of resources and printouts at end of tile to mkgmap and >> send patches. > > Is that your way of saying "wontfix" ? ;-) Sorry, but java is one of > the few programming languages I have absolutely no skills in. I'm not one of the maintainers; it was just advice on a way forward to resolve this. But, I think you've found an input file that causes bad behavior, and that problem is likely of interest to many. I would suggest running mkgmap on the individual input files with a reasonable heap size (1G?) and see how many of them fail. There could be something pathological or unhandled in one region, and finding it would be helpful to understanding what is happening. > For now, we will pin mkgmap svn630 in Ubuntu. I am tempted to say that despite the trouble you are having that sounds to me like not the best choice for your users. On the other hand, I would recommend that people who want to use mkgmap should both use the latest from svn and be on this list :-)
