levels = 0:24, 1:22, 2:21, 3:20, 4:19, 5:18, 6:16, 7:12 I also (try) to make sure that only these resolutions are used in the lines and points file. I seem to recall that the mkgmap default style at the time (about 3 months ago) used some resolutions that weren't defined in options file. I guessed that maybe extra levels were being created inside mkgmap, which caused the total number of levels to exceed the maximum a map file can cope with and that maybe this caused the background to disappear as I zoomed out.
