That sounds cool. For my maps I don't think that it matters. Bicycle or 
Hiking or MTB Routes usually don't have backward/forward members. For 
bus or tram routes, the matter would be clearly important.  For me a 
simple length calculation is all that matters. Most importantly for 
ways, if not too complicated for relations, then even better.
