Marko, Chris thanks a lot, I'll give a try with the styles - actually I'm not using any custom style. One strange behavior I loaded the very same map in another Garmin device (different model) and I can route to it properly - but I did not disable the basemap so maybe it's defaulting to it and since it is surely different from the other device it is going ok...
