Thanks for the patch. It looks reasonable. Did you see any improvement regarding routing? In the past I wasn't able to see any difference if --merge-lines is set or not. But I see that a lot of long distance routings do not work in MapSource and on my Oregon and Nüvi too. I will compile a map with the patch and will post some examples.
