Maybe only the combination of both actions causes trouble in the PC programs?

cgpsmapper had the option to do 2) without doing 1) which it calls a semi-transparent map.

I tried un-setting the flag on a transparent map and routing started working again in mapsource. So it is just the flag that causes the
problem. I don't know what the flag really does.

I also noted from the documentation that cgpsmapper seems to add 32 to
the draw priority of a transparent map, which is something that we do
not do.
