Hi Joris

I have a GPSMAP 66S which works well with OSM maps. I'm sure the 67i will be OK.

ChatGTP report:

Both the *GPSMAP 66S* and *GPSMAP 67i*:

 *

Support *Garmin-compatible |.img| map files*, which is the format
   produced by |mkgmap|.

 *

Use a microSD card for map storage (though the 67i also has 32 GB of
   internal storage).

 *

Run Garmin's standard mapping engine, meaning custom maps generated
via OpenStreetMap and |mkgmap| typically work just fine.

⚠️ Things to Keep in Mind

1.

   *Folder Placement*:

     *

On the *SD card* or internal storage, place your map files
       (e.g., |gmapsupp.img|) in a folder named *|Garmin|*.

     *

       Example path:
       |/Garmin/gmapsupp.img| or |/Garmin/custommap.img|

2.

   *File Naming*:

     *

Unlike older units, the 67i can load *multiple |.img| files*
with custom names (e.g., |topo_OSM.img|), as long as they’re in
       the Garmin folder.

3.

   *Map Limits*:

     *

Newer Garmin devices, like the 67i, support more than one map
file and larger file sizes (over 2 GB), *but too many large
       files can slow performance*.

     *

Don't overload it with too many tiles or files from |mkgmap|.

4.

   *DEM (Elevation) Data*:

     *

If your |mkgmap| maps don’t include DEM data, the elevation
shading may not work properly. That’s not critical, but it may
affect 3D views or shaded relief.

     *

The 67i comes with Garmin’s TopoActive maps (with DEM), but you
       can disable or override them.

5.

   *Map Activation*:

     *

Once copied, enable your custom map on the device:

         o

Go to *Setup > Map > Map Information > Select Map*, and
           check your map.
