CALL FOR PHD APPLICATIONS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Politecnico di Milano offers 36 PhD positions within the Computer
Science and Engineering research area of the Information Technology (IT)
PhD Program. The duration of the program is 3 years and admission
is on a competitive basis. Most of the positions are supported by a
scholarship with competitive salary and additional support for lodging
is provided to the best foreign students. Applicants must hold a master
degree, but also students that graduate in Italian universities by
December 2011 can apply. Applications from foreign students and students
from other Italian universities are especially encouraged.

IT PhD Program:
The IT PhD Program offers young students graduated in scientific
disciplines an international and stimulating environment for advanced
training and research activities in the fields of Computer Science and
Engineering, Electronics, Systems and Control, Communications and
Networks, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary approaches. The joint
projects with renowned international research institutions make it
easier to enter the world of international research, thanks to
interaction with scientific personalities and visiting periods in
laboratories worldwide. The industrial joint projects in applied
research allow PhD students to become acquainted to the activities of
today's most technologically advanced companies, thus gaining the
knowledge necessary to a more conscious choice between a career in

research topics for the PhD.

following positions in the security area:

AUTOMATED REVERSE ENGINEERING AND ANALYSIS OF MALWARE SAMPLES

Description: In the context of the European Projects i-Code and SysSec
we are looking for doctoral candidates willing to work on the creation of
algorithms and tools for automating the reverse engineering and analysis
of malware
in a forensic environment, or samples captured by widely deployed
networks of honeypots.

The work will range from low-level disassembly and reverse engineering
to behaviour-oriented analysis, through the use of different types of
machine learning algorithms.

SECURITY OF SMART GRIDS AND CRITICAL ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURES

Description: In the context of a NATO-funded research project, we are
looking for doctoral candidates willing to work on threat analysis,
modeling and development of countermeasures for securing smart grid
environments.

SECURITY OF CLOUD COMPUTING ARCHITECTURES

Description: In the context of EU-funded research, we are looking for
doctoral candidates willing to work on threat analysis, modeling and
development of countermeasures for securing next generation computing
architectures based on cloud computing.

Discussion of different security-oriented doctoral research themes is
also possible.
