Thanks for pitching in, Andy. The first thing to see is play.rb. The bindings are not really documented. It is the C API that is documented as well as much of the services. To understand the bindings you really just to look over the C++ API to see how it is a rather simple wrapper over the C API that is already rather object-oriented. Then, you look at the script example provided to see how the C++ API maps to the language. To really get into the script API requires looking at the swig intermediate and/or the docs of swig language module.
