A great way to learn is to open kdenlive and apply the "Rotate and Shear" effect. This effect uses the affine filter under the hood. See how the filter alters a clip in kdenlive. Then, save the kdenlive project and look at it in a text editor. The kdenlive text editor is simply an MLT xml file.
