I think we could There is no animation parameter type. The properties are variant, but the metadata lets one declare a type for the parameter to provide guidance or for generated UIs in apps. It is already done by mlt_properties_anim_*. I designed it so that any property can be accessed via the new animation getters, and it will work as before when not using keyframes or with interpolation when a keyframed value is set on the property. There are just some services like these pointed out by Janne that are providing legacy, ad hoc keyframing. Every mutable property can be upgraded to use anim including everything using mlt_geometry - it just takes time and energy.
