Make buffer property speed adaptive and mutable.
When speed is 0, we do not need to render ahead as the processing has
been paused. When using a consumer with a refresh property, a refresh
only needs to render one frame.
Also, changes to the buffer are understood without the need to stop and
restart the consumer.
