I never encountered such a file. In such a case you'd have to check what the magazine says. and What is the >difference between tar xvzf for .tgz extention >and tar xzf for .tar.gz extention and those they are the rules. Nothing important. The "v" simply displays a list of the files as they are extracted. "tgz" and "tar.gz" are the same. x ... eXtract v ... verify (ie, show a list of files) z ... the archive is zipped using GZIP f ... the next argument is the file to zip/unzip.
