I used Mandrake 9 until recently and I had no problems configuring it to
connect to the web.
Recently I had to repace my motherboard and to reinstall windows and
linux. Mandrake 9 wouldn't install this time. So I installed RH8.
I installed benoit papillaut's drivers and the alcatel driver. Managed
to load the microcode manually with modem_run.
Edited /etc/ppp/options, /etc/peer/adsl, chap-secrets and pap-secrets.
When I connect with pppd call adsl and run an ifconfig ppp0 no IP
address is reported.
I don't know exactly where is the problem. I heard that in Malta we use
the PPTP protocol - don't know if this requires any special modules to
install. I installed the pptp protocol but don't think it is being used
by pppd.
Where do I find the logs with any error messages? In Mandrake the logs
where easy to find. In RH8 there is a menu item for system logs but
couldn't find any references to modem_run and pppd.
Any help would be appreciated.
