Hi All,
this question of how to fix bitrate negotiation on a network card to a particular value was raised (as a side-issue) in our first committe meeting. The response may be of interest to others.

The reason you may want to do this is when you get a race condition with some hubs/switches and your Linux box where some components get confused in the auto-negotiation process. The command to use is mii-tool. To force interface eth0 to 10 Base T Half Duplex, you have to issue the command

mii-tool --force=10baseT-HD eth0

other options are 100baseTx-FD, 100baseTx-HD or 10baseT-FD.

You might want to put this in rc.local

Cheers
