I haven't used Linspire much - I use Mandrake and generally recommend that one. However 10.1 is still in the "community" stage - which is something like a "release candidate", and I wouldn't recommend beta/RC software to someone who's so green - version 10.0 is a safer bet, or wait until 10.1 official is released.
Incidentally I myself have just finished installing 10.1 and, apart from a couple of bugs in the installation, it looks good.
