U sing a machine here that has an ASUS P4S8X-X mobo, this has the SIS963L southbridge chipset. The drives show the following stats:
neteng-iain pci # hdparm /dev/hda /dev/hda: multcount = 16 (on) IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit) unmaskirq = 0 (off) using_dma = 0 (off) keepsettings = 0 (off) readonly = 0 (off) readahead = 256 (on) geometry = 65535/16/63, sectors = 78165360, start = 0 Trying to get DMA enabled on a couple of drives using hdparm presents the following error: neteng-iain pci # hdparm -d1 /dev/hda /dev/hda: setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted using_dma = 0 (off) Now I know that I need to enable the supported chipset and so I enabled all IDE chipsets as modules (state of frustration) and loaded them one after the other, then tried the above command to get things moving. Nothing. Anyone run across this mobo/problem?? Anyone got some suggestions?? Regs. Iain.
