Perhaps an earlier kernel version (LiveCD 2004.2??) may work, or try a
build with the RealTek (urgh!) card and build the kernel modules for the
GE card once built. You should be able to disable to GE fro the BIOS.
If you can get something other than RTL8139 chiped NICs you'll do
yourself a favour. These vendors sometimes forget to set unique MAC
addresses.
