A new feature announced by Google for its Desktop Search application is raising quite a few alarms over security and privacy of data.
If you use the new "Search across computers" feature, the contents of your indexed documents will be stored remotely on Google's servers. This feature should make it possible to search the contents of any of your computers from any other computer, but it also potentially makes the contents of all your documents available to anyone who steals your password. Google hasn't yet responded to these concerns, but in the meantime I'd personally be cautious of enabling such a feature on my computers. http://www.eff.org/news/archives/2006_02.php#004400 Ramon
