Hmmm, this is really all guess work, not much value in it is there?
Anecdotal only. My original email noted it was not scientific.
However, I have only my own, very limited exposure to work with and
thought that
I might gain a bit of expansion by asking a few groups.

Why would you need such info anyway? Is it to decide where to put
up adverts?
If that is it, choosing the engine that targets its audience more
precisely is a better criterion then
the opinion of a few Linux fans.
Actually, I am making a standalone application that will have
Windows, OS X, and Linux versions.
My question was aimed towards deciding on one of the features that
will be part of this app.
I thought if I received a definitive observation from asking a varied
set of people/groups (of
which the esteemed Linux List is but one) that it might help me.
However, it seems that
I shall need to include this feature for both Google & Yahoo. My own
bias is heavy on the Google side
and I never use Yahoo.
Ahhh that's interesting .... My guess would be that it depends more on
target audience of your app, rather than popular usage
If its targeted at avarage joe, I guess many also use Microsoft's Live
thingy as well, if they have especially if they use IE7
Anyway I use google ... clean look always wins. In general of all
the people I know, the only ones that use yahoo
are the ones that did not make the choice but went with what they
had; what someone else set up for them.
Oh and don;t forget about http://www.blackle.com/ ... now that's a real
search in the dark :-p
Thanks for the reply Philip.
