I too didn't attend the OSS day organized by ITSA as I wasn't at Uni on the day, but I would have liked too. I was a bit put off by the description of ITSA's site (http://ictsamalta.org/?page_id=58) While it starts off great by comparing to the ideas of recipies in a restaurant, the rest of the text sort of looses me. Especially what I felt was an emphasis on the financial aspect before the "Open Source" aspect and all that comes with it. Having the source almost seems like an afterthought.
I agree with Angelo that a survey of industry would be something interesting to have in hand. Also, Im quite sure that should we talk to Dr Cachia about any activities we have planned, he would be more than happy to assist. I would be very interested in helping in identifying and planning out any activities for University. As for MCAST, I have a friend there (Higher National), so I could ask a bit who we would have to talk to. From what I hear of their sylabus however, im not sure how much it would accomodate the use of Linux for the students. Most course work is heavily based Microsoft technologies (from what I hear). The year is almost out, but I suppose if some stuff gets planned over summer we can start with a bang next October. One idea for Uni could be some sort of Introductory Linux Workshops. Also do you normally have a stand at the IT Fair? I think it would be a good idea to throw some ideas back and forth, and then hold a meeting about this (or set it as a main point on next month's agenda) so that we can get the ball rolling.
