The Parliamentary Secretariat for Small Business & Land and the Malta Business Bureau are organising a National Conference on Harnessing Intellectual Property Protection for Investment Promotion. This event will be part of the annual SME Week 2011 activities. The event, which will take place at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta’ Qali will welcome a number of international and local high profile speakers who will share their expertise in the field. The aim of the conference is to generate a debate on the policy links between intellectual property rights (IPRs) and the general improvement of the investment proposition package for Malta with the intent to develop a national patent policy fully-tuned to the needs of local business. The discussion will shed light on recent EU political developments that should lead to a common unified EU Patent. MBB President John A. Huber will be opening the proceedings. Other speakers will include Mr. Nikolaus Thumm – Chief Economist, European Patents Office; Mr. Godwin Warr – Director General, Commerce Department; Mr. Vincent Tilman – Senior Advisor, Eurochambres; and a senior policy expert from the European Commission’s DG Internal Market and Services. The closing address will be delivered by Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Dr. Jason Azzopardi. The conference will take place on Friday 14th October 201, from 08:30 – 12:15 with a break for a Networking Aperitif & Stand-up Lunch from 12:15 – 13:30. Ramon Casha
