Hi,

I gave Debian a roll this Christmas and I was pleased to note the
speed with which the Debian packages were downloading. Consider that Debian
packages are just ar archives of the binaries and other staff. They are not
compressed at all.

Unfortunatley, I soon found that Debian is not for me. I will not go into
this as it is not fair to complain on the small nuances that irritated me
rather the big picture in which Debian excels, and I am not writing this
about Debian.

I was downloading the Debian Packages from
http://debian.res.um.edu.mt/debian/, but now I am back to more familiar
territory: Slackware, and updating Slackware involves rsyncing packages
from a Slackware mirror. The nearest mirror (in Italy) is not updated with
Slackware 13.37 (a.k.a. leet) - the latest Slack release, so I rsync with
mirrors in Belgium, or wherever.

As far as I know I have never met any of you, but I have a vague hope that
someone in this mailing list is the sysadmin of this local Debian Mirror at
the UM. If that is the case, I would appreciate if a Slackware mirror may
be included. Naturally I would be ready to help if that is it is feasible.
Otherwise I will try to figure out how to set my own mirror, but I am
discouraged by the electricity bill ...

Chris
