Hello,

My advise is to get acquainted with the command line. Read this article for
more details how to find recent large files:
http://www.jamesattard.com/2010/11/find-recent-large-files-in-unix.html.

With regards to performance, are you using SSD drive? My tool of choice is
again command line based - top or iostat. Investigate the top processes
with top and see whether they are IO, CPU or Memory bound by using iostat.
You will also get an idea whether your system is swapping or not - in that
case you might need to upgrade memory.

If you need remote support, my details are under my signature..

Best,
James
