You know the GIMP supports RAW importing using dcraw (install gimp-dcraw)? You could replace both those apps with GIMP and a simple image viewer (I like EOG or eye of gnome). These would not have non-standard configs and would not require the QT stuff. Xubuntu is my distro of choice for netbooks.
