I use s3sync. Basically it is "rsync to s3", exactly what you are asking
for.

Prerequisites: You need a functioning Ruby (>=1.8.4) installation, as
well as the OpenSSL ruby
library (which may or may not come with your ruby).

I set it up as a cron job and it is flawless. I've been running it for
over a year now.
