The intent is to have a common product between Linux, Windows and the MAC. I looked at QT and did a survey of wxWidgets, but was not sure about either. Once the decision is taken, we have to live with it.

It has a ui designer http://glade.gnome.org/ which allows you to drag and drop buttons, etc. I'm not sure about its networking libraries.
